How to Edit a Filing's Due Date

Sometimes a jurisdiction grants an extension or you need to correct a due date. Equipath supports updating the due date both before and during filing.

Edit Before Filing:

When to Use This

  • You need to change a filing's future due dates.
  • You are not yet ready to file.
  • You don't need notes or documentation attached.

Steps

  1. Go to the Filings tab.
  2. Click Edit Filing (pencil icon) for the filing whose date you wish to change.
  3. Edit the Due Date field to the new date.
  4. Click Save Filing.

If you are not ready to file yet, but you do want to document your reasons for updating the date or attach documentation supporting the updated due date, use the Edit During Filing process below together with the Reopening a Filing workaround that follows it.

Edit During Filing:

When to Use This

  • You are ready to file.
  • You want to include notes about the change and/or attach supporting documentation.

Steps

  1. Go to the Filings tab.
  2. Click File Now on the filing you want to file.
  3. In the filing dialog, edit the Due Date field to reflect the correct date.
  4. Confirm your Date Submitted is correct (it defaults to today if you have not submitted this exact filing instance before).
  5. Update the Notes field with any reasons you wish to document for the due date change, plus any additional notes.
  6. Upload any documentation relating to the due date change or the filing itself. (Premium feature — you may need to upgrade the entity first.)
  7. Check the Next Due Date and confirm it is correct. It is calculated from the updated Due Date you entered above. If it is incorrect (for example, after a temporary date change that only applies to this year), use the Override button next to the calculated date and provide the required reason.
  8. Click Submit Filing.

Reopening a Filing Workaround

Use this only when you want documentation attached to a future due date change but are not ready to actually file yet.

Steps

  1. Follow the Edit During Filing steps through Step 8, Submit Filing.
  2. Find the filing you just submitted and click Edit Filing (pencil icon).
  3. Change Filing Status to "Not Filed (Reopen)".
  4. Delete the Date Submitted (leave blank).
  5. Click Save Filing. The filing will reopen and display as unfiled.
  6. Find and delete the new "next filing" the system created when you submitted. This is a duplicate of the filing that will be created when you actually file the reopened one, so it is not needed yet.

Edit After Filing:

When to Use This

  • You already filed the filing in the system and noticed the due date was wrong and need to correct it.
  • You want to include notes and/or supporting documentation about the change.

Steps

  1. Go to the Filings tab.
  2. Click Edit Filing (pencil icon) for the filing whose date you wish to change.
  3. Edit the Due Date field to the new date.
  4. Update the Notes field with any reasons you wish to document for the due date change, plus any additional notes.
  5. Upload any documentation relating to the due date change or the filing itself. (Premium feature — you may need to upgrade the entity first.)
  6. Click Save Filing.

Note: Check the due date on the next (unfiled) version of this filing. If it is incorrect, use the Edit Before Filing process to update that filing as well.

Impact on Future Filings

When you update a due date before filing, the next filing period is calculated from the updated date rather than the original. You can always override this using the Override option next to Next Due Date.

If you use the Reopening a Filing Workaround, delete the extra duplicate filing it creates to keep your filing tracking clean.
