Changing an Entity's Parent
You can reorganize your entity hierarchy by changing the parent entity assignment.
Steps
- Navigate to the entity you want to move.
- Click Edit Entity (pencil icon near the entity name).
- In the Basic Info section, find the Parent Entity field.
- Select the new parent entity from the dropdown.
- Click Save.
What Changes
- The entity graph updates immediately to reflect the new hierarchy.
- Compliance records are not affected by the parent change.
- Ownership percentages may need to be updated manually in the Ownership tab.
Removing a Parent (Making an Entity Top-Level)
To make an entity a top-level entity (no parent), clear the Parent Entity field in Basic Info and save.
Circular Hierarchy Prevention
Equipath prevents circular parent assignments — you cannot set an entity's parent to one of its own descendants.
Note: If this restructuring reflects a real legal transaction (merger, spin-off), also update the entity's ownership records and jurisdiction registrations accordingly.
