Changing an Entity's Parent

You can reorganize your entity hierarchy by changing the parent entity assignment.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the entity you want to move.
  2. Click Edit Entity (pencil icon near the entity name).
  3. In the Basic Info section, find the Parent Entity field.
  4. Select the new parent entity from the dropdown.
  5. Click Save.

What Changes

  • The entity graph updates immediately to reflect the new hierarchy.
  • Compliance records are not affected by the parent change.
  • Ownership percentages may need to be updated manually in the Ownership tab.

Removing a Parent (Making an Entity Top-Level)

To make an entity a top-level entity (no parent), clear the Parent Entity field in Basic Info and save.

Circular Hierarchy Prevention

Equipath prevents circular parent assignments — you cannot set an entity's parent to one of its own descendants.

Note: If this restructuring reflects a real legal transaction (merger, spin-off), also update the entity's ownership records and jurisdiction registrations accordingly.
